NeuNet

NeuNet was our first product for the Mac and is still bought by users of old Macs that only have the original LocalTalk networking system (serial ports and no Ethernet). Using fixed wall sockets with direct cabling to the Mac, NeuNet's wires could be neatly and safely tucked into your office trunking system. To access it, you simply plugged your Mac into a socket, just like a telephone. You could have up to 32 sockets wired to a "bus" of 300 meters.

NeuNet used Appletalk protocols and was therefore compatible with all the old-style Macs, and most printers that had a LocalTalk port.

A NeuNet connector has 6 pins, and installation cabling is three pair twisted cable (preferably with shielding). Two pins are used for LocalTalk (230Kb), two pins for high speed NeuNet (2.5Mb) and two pins reserved. NeuNet sockets also have built-in transformer isolation and switches for end-of-cable termination, and a small test socket and switch on the back of the circuit board.

NeuNet wall sockets are still available, but with very limited stocks, in three forms:- a Small Single socket which comes with a surface mounting box, a Single socket and a Dual socket for mounting on office trunking or MK boxes.
Although similar in appearance to British Telecom sockets, NeuNet sockets have black shutters and are mechanically different to ensure that a telephone is not accidentally plugged in, or vice versa.
Special order NeuNet sockets are also available in Chrome or Brass and for use with the MK PowerLink system.
